The Department of Foreign Affairs' highest-ranking civil worker is an Indian Foreign Service officer named the Foreign Secretary.
The Ministry of External Affairs is in charge of India's participation at the United Nations and other international organizations, as well as its embassies across the world. Additionally, it advises other Ministries and States on foreign governments and institutions.
